2.55% APY for 36-month CD, 1.80% APY for 12-month Certificate of deposit best cd interest rates with Self-Help Credit Union
Self-Help Credit Union or SHCU continues to push for their top cd rates. The current cd rates are not as high the previous years but they are still money in the bank deals in the current market situation. Their interest rates have been pretty steady the past few months when others have been dropping their figures. Here is a quick rundown of the highest cd rates:
6 months 1.50% APY
12 months 1.80% APY
24 months 2.05% APY
36 months 2.55% APY
48 months 2.80% APY
60 months 3.05% APY
These cd rates are still listed on the credit union’s website as of March 23 but they can be changed any time. Please check their rates page for the latest figures. These certificates of deposit, by the way, are also available as IRA.
One thumbs down aspect of this money in the bank deal is the early withdrawal penalty which is quite stiff at half of the CD term’s interest. It may sound just reasonable for the one year CD but it will be bad news for those who want to get longer term CDs. A two year CD will not get 12 months of earnings in case you decide to take out early.
This credit union by the way has two charters. They have the SHCU and the Self Help Federal Credit Union.
Interested individuals can sign up for membership and open an account at SHCU or SHFCU. You can use an online application form for this purpose. Membership is open for those who belong to the Center for Community Self-Help. The group collects $5 as membership fee as you get a share in the Credit Union. Those who sign up for the Center for Community Self-Help need to give out $20 as membership fee.
Individuals and organizations from any state can seek membership with Self-Help.
The credit union has branches in California and North Carolina. These are full service offices which may be operating with a different name but these credit unions are under the umbrella of SHCU or the SHFCU.
BauerFinancial gives the credit union 3 stars based on its soundness and safety. Both the SHCU and the SHFCU are covered by the NCU through charters number 66258 and 24802, respectively. You can call the credit union through 1-800-966-SELF if you have questions with regard to membership, products, and their services.
