City of Boston Credit Union provides attractive interest rates on their short term and long term certificate of deposit. The credit union has the following current CD rates:

• 6 months        0.75% APY
• 8 months        1.00% APY
• 12 months      1.05% APY
• 18 months      1.10% APY
• 24 months      1.46% APY
• 30 months      1.51% APY
• 36 months      2.02% APY
• 48 months      2.27% APY
• 60 months      2.78% APY

You can take advantage of these best CD rates when you deposit a minimum of $500 to open an account. These certificates of deposit account may also impose a penalty when you make a withdrawal before the maturity date. The penalties are as follows: for 6 months term the penalty is equal to 1 months interest, for 12 to 36 months term the penalty is equal to 3 months interest, and for 48 to 60 months term the penalty is equal to 6 months interest.

The credit union automatically renews your account once it matures. You will receive a notification via mail and you will also be given a grace period to make changes on to your account or withdraw your money without penalty if you decide not to renew the account. Please also remember that once your CD account is open the interest rates may change, so I advise that you contact the credit union first and ask for their latest CD rates.

City of Boston Credit Union membership is open to everyone who lives or works in the counties of Suffolk or Norfolk, Massachusetts. Organizations located on those areas and employees of the credit union are also eligible. Family members such as spouse, children, parents, grandparents or grandchildren are also welcome to join.

There are 3 ways to apply for membership, first is to print the application form online. Complete and sign the form and mail it to any locations of the credit union. You must also enclose a copy of your driver’s license and a check worth $25 which will be deposited on your share savings account. The second option is to call customer service to apply for membership, you may call their member service representative at 617-635-4545, 617-535-1313, or 617-635-2300. You will also be required to mail in your application form, copy of your driver’s license and check of $25. Third option is to visit one of their branches and bring valid picture identifications, $25 for your initial deposit, and social security card.
