1.51% APY Checking Account at Morill and Janes Bank—Best Interest Rates Nationwide
While it’s not one of the best reward checking account deals because it isn’t a reward checking account, the deal Morill and Janes Bank is offering us is certainly one of the best checking account deals across the U.S.A. It earns a generous 1.51% APY for balances of more than $1,500, and it’s a good account to have if you like keeping big funds in the bank.
The only downside, probably, is the monthly fee. This is $6 a month, and could be a small price to pay if you’re earning a huge interest anyway. The drop down rate for balances under $1,500 isn’t bad either. You still get to earn 0.95% APY. According to the bank’s website, the rate hasn’t changed since April 2009. If that’s the case, then it says a lot about the bank’s financial stability.
You don’t have to visit their branches just to open an account. You can apply for it online through Andera.com from any state, as long as you live, work, worship and study within the U.S.A. The first fund transfers will have to be done electronically, though, and you need to take note than the account, once opened, can only receive ACH transfers but have no online ACF features of its own.
On the plus side, though, you get your first order of checks for free. You can also earn up to $25 when you surrender old checks and debit cards to the bank. Online bill pay and ATM usage is also free nationwide.
If you’re curious, though, you can drop by the bank’s main office in Merriam, Kansas, or any of its seven branches in Missouri and Kansas. It’s good to know that this isn’t just an online bank. Having a physical office just assures the more old-fashioned among us that this bank can be trusted.
The bank has impressive financial health ratings. Bankrate.com gave it a four out of five stars while BauerFinancial gave it a five out of five. The bank has also been around for quite some time. A member since 1934, the bank is federally insured under FDIC Certificate # 1143.
