This best checking account provides an interest rate of 4.00% APY if you deposit a balance up to $5,000. The portion of your deposit above $5,000 to $25,000 will earn you an interest rate of 2.00% APY. If the deposit exceeds $25k the portion of the above balance will earn an interest rate of 0.15% APY. In addition, you can also refund up to $10 worth of your ATM fees. All you need to do to enjoy this best interest rate is to follow the credit unions requirements:
- make purchases using your debit card at least 10 times at the point of sale
- make at least one bill pay using online banking
- subscribe to electronic bank statement
- setup a direct deposit at least once per statement cycle
If you did not meet the credit unions prerequisites for the month, you will only earn the base interest rates of 0.15% APY. The downside of this is that you will not be able to refund the ATM fees instead you will have to pay a $5 fee per statement cycle.
