The BC National Bank invites consumers to take advantage of their high interest rates for their Ultimate Plus Checking, their best checking account which gives 5.00% APY of earnings.

Account holders can take advantage of the best interest rates for the reward checking account if you make at least 12 purchases using the debit card, make an ACH transaction or a direct deposit, and go for electronic statements over paper statements. The yield will fall to 0.20% if these requirements are not satisfied.

The 5.10% APY are given to balances through $25,000. Portions of your deposit above this line get 1.25% APY. The account also repays ATM fees of as much as $15 every month. The bank does not set any minimum maintaining balance. BC National Bank also gives a box of free checks per year.

If you are interested, you can open this reward checking account with a $100 initial deposit. The bank charges $6 of service fee per month but this can be waived if you complete 24 purchases using your debit card.

In case you don’t want to worry about the monthly fee, you can try a similar reward checking account deal through their Ultimate Checking. The mechanics are the same but there’s no monthly fee. The downside is that the earnings are also set lower at 3.10% APY for your $25K deposit and 1.00% APY for the amount above.

It really depends on your plan. If you will be depositing more than $25K it will be wiser to go for the Ultimate Plus Checking. The earnings of the account eventually off sets the fees required if you do the math. For a $25K balance, you just need a rate of 0.30% to get $6 per month.
