How to use your credit card rewards to donate to charity
By now you may have realized that you cannot sing “We are the world” with the biggest stars. Small things really count when you want to help people who are in need.
You can help people who are victims of natural calamities around the world, or maybe help a child in a third world country go to school, or maybe fund some environment programs, and a lot more. You can use the rewards that you have earned with your credit cards to do these things.
American Express
If you have an American Express card you can forward your donations through their GivingExpress Program . You can also choose a charity that you want to donate to from their list. Those who want to use their credit cards to donate some money can do so and at the same time earn a reward point for every dollar that you spend.
It is very easy to setup recurring donations so each month a specific amount will be pulled from your account.
American Express also allows you to track these donations down so you will not have any trouble finding them when tax season comes. You will have a detailed record of what you give and they also give you a confirmation of what you give to charity.
Citi Card
You can use your Citi reward points to donate to the American Red Cross. Your 5,000 points can translate to $50 while your 10,000 points will give the Red Cross $100. The fund will go directly to the international fund of the Red Cross that is focused on helping victims of disasters like the recent earthquake in Haiti. It will also be used for health emergencies or other humanitarian crises.
Discover Credit Card
Discover also allows you to redeem your reward points and give your cash back to charity. This is one good option if you really don’t have money in hand but you want to help. You can use the cash back reward points in your card to help organizations like the American Red Cross, Doctors without Borders, World Vision, Habitat for Humanity, Save the Children, US Fund for Unicef and a lot more.
Giving back brings some satisfaction beyond what having money can do for you. Check your reward points and maybe you can push some for a good cause
