1.67% APY best money market rate with EBSB Direct

The online division of Eastern Boston Savings Bank, EBSB Direct , is still offering an attractive money in the bank deal through their money market account that offers 1.67% APY for balances through $50,000. Unlike before though, there is no more guarantee period. The account requires at least $5,000 of new money to open and has a ceiling of $1 million.

According to the bank’s customer service, the money market deal is offered in all states. The bank said they do not do a credit pull when you open an account. The interest for this account is compounded and credited on a monthly basis.

The money market account comes with a Visa debit card but you will not have any check writing privileges. Like other MMAs you are limited to six withdrawals every month. You will be able to monitor your account through paper statements sent to you via mail once a month.

When you open an account, the initial funding information will be kept by the bank so you can still use that on your next transactions. The bank will also perform trial deposits to verify that you own the source account. According to the FAQ of the website, the allow unlimited number of links to your account. Inbound and outbound transfers are limited to $150,000 per transaction.

The East Boston Savings Bank received 4 stars for its soundness and safety from both bankrate.com and BauerFinancial. EBSB has a declared asset amounting to $1 billion and deposits of approximately $812 million.

The bank is a member of the FDIC with certificate number 33510. They also have DIF insurance for their deposits.
