Heartland Bank Direct is still pushing for their high yield savings account called Performance Savings. The current interest rate is at 1.51% APY. The initial deposit to open an account is $500.

Interested individuals can apply for Heartland’s best savings account by completing an online application form. According to the bank they only do a soft pull of your credit during application. The application will also require you to identify an existing checking account as a source of funding for this online savings account. The bank will make two trial deposits to verify that you really own the account.

The electronic transfer of funds takes 3 days but you can pay $12 if you want it to be completed by the next day. You can also fund your account by mailing in a check but the funds will only show on your account after 10 business days.

The Performance savings account does not collect any monthly fees and does not charge for normal transactions. They also do not charge if you fall below the $500-line after opening. Any withdrawal going beyond the monthly limit of six will cost you $20.

You can also link your Heartland account with your other bank accounts so you can easily move funds any time you wish.

The earnings of the account are credited to your account on a quarterly basis. The interest will still be credited even if you close the account before the end of the quarter.
